Artist Statement
My practice is currently concerned with the phenomena of light, movement, perception and space. The work observes and reveals the artificial ecosystem that exists in the interplay of people, their surroundings and these intangible elements. Changes that occur in any one of these components have a perceptible impact on the other. Rarely static, they exist in a perpetual state of transformation. The work endeavors to function as a metaphor for this inherent instability that exists in the world around us.

The investigation of these elements is experimental in nature and this exploratory process is as important as the finished piece, as the unpredictability of the techniques used is key to discovery. I use commonplace materials, focusing on items designed to visually enhance and clarify (such as lights, magnifying lenses, reading glasses and mirrors) that also have the potential to distort and obscure the very things it is their function to reveal. I attempt to maintain the integrity of the materials while the viewer is allowed to experience them in a new and often surprising way.

Designed to be interactive and immersive it is hoped that the work will prompt a more considered way of viewing the world and urge a questioning approach to information gained through the visual senses.
